Protecting Women. Restoring Dignity. Rebuilding Lives.

No woman should ever be subjected to physical or sexual violence. Women and girls have the right to live in safety, dignity, and freedom supported by their communities and protected from harm.

Advancing women’s rights and protection is a central pillar of Maeger Tigray’s mission. The war in Tigray left countless women and girls exposed to sexual and gender-based violence, resulting in long-term physical injuries, psychological trauma, and social isolation. Many survivors lost not only their sense of safety, but also their homes, livelihoods, and support networks.

Recognizing the urgent need for comprehensive care, Maeger Tigray works in close collaboration with the Women’s Association of Tigray to support survivors on their path to healing. Through this partnership, Maeger Tigray contributed 3 million birr to strengthen services at a One-Stop Rehabilitation Center dedicated to survivors of sexual violence.

Women remain at the center for four to five months, where they receive holistic, survivor-centered care, including:

  • Medical treatment and follow-up care
  • Trauma-informed psychological counseling
  • Social support and rehabilitation services
  • A safe and respectful environment that promotes recovery and dignity

Healing does not end with medical care. Sustainable recovery requires economic stability and social reintegration. To help survivors rebuild their independence, Maeger Tigray provides 15,000 birr to each of 200 women upon completion of the rehabilitation program. This financial support enables women to meet basic needs, pursue small income-generating activities, and take the first steps toward self-reliance after losing their homes and livelihoods during the conflict.

Understanding the importance of cultural identity and emotional well-being, Maeger Tigray also covered Ashenda holiday clothing for 200 women. This support allowed survivors to participate in the celebration with dignity, confidence, and a renewed sense of belonging within their communities.

Maeger Tigray remains committed to standing with women and girls in Tigray—advocating for their rights, supporting their healing, and empowering them to reclaim their futures.

Together, we work toward a Tigray where every woman lives free from violence, with dignity, opportunity, and hope.
